One of the benefits of growing up in my small town was the
opportunity to play sports. We
didn’t have try-outs; coaches were just thrilled to know they were going to
have enough players to have a Varsity and Junior Varsity team. Needless to say, if you wanted to play,
you weren’t turned away! I loved
the adrenaline of basketball, but to be honest, it wasn’t until my senior year
that I had a full understanding of the game. Now that’s a little embarrassing to admit, but its true! I
was so confused at times that teammates actually drew up the plays on my
wrist…that’s not something you just make up people, its true. Thankfully, I was quick, and had a lot
of energy, and the basketball court was a great place to use up some of that
energy.
Now softball was a different story, I not only understood
the game of softball, but lived
and breathed for each practice and game.
I didn’t just want to play my position well, but I wanted to “own it.” I was a pitcher, so it was my
responsibility to remember the face and number of each power hitter from the
opposing team, and strike em’ out. Every. Single. Time. Did I? Nope? But I had fun trying!
I remember hearing my mom say once that the coaches spent their
softball season earning treasures heaven.
These two men dealt with twenty plus teenage girls and definitely
deserve a few extra jewels in their heavenly booty. Dennis and Dewey are good men. They both still live in the area and if they were still
coaching softball I’d probably try to be their ball girl. They made it a blast for us.
I had the opportunity of taking pictures for Coach Dewey’s
daughter Marisa this past weekend.
As I was taking pictures, I kept seeing flashbacks of her in her
softball uniform. With dirt and grass stains up her legs from sliding into
second, third or home. My freshmen
year, she was a senior and the starting third baseman. Boy did that girl have an arm! You didn’t want to be in the line of
fire while she was attempting to throw a runner out. Needless to say she was good…very good.
She was also a stunning bride. Just stunning. Her groom,
Rome was equally as handsome and ready to make this bride his wife. They choose
the Glover Mansion in Spokane, Wa for their big day and I had a great time
capturing the ageless beauty of this place.
Thank you Marisa and Rome for asking me to capture your wedding day. It truly was an honor.
Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn't want what it doesn't have.
Love doesn't strut,
Doesn't have a swelled head,
Doesn't force itself on others,
Isn't always "me first,"
Doesn't fly off the handle,
Doesn't keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn't revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end."
~1 Corinthians 13
PS. Although it was a bit of a shock to see my old coach in a tux, rather than warm-ups, I have to admit he looked great! He needs to find more reasons to get all dressed up. Good Game Coach!
